Material and Budget
In first place, regarding laboratory rats, the average price per rat is 8 euros, with the average weight of 60g. For each group, 6 lab rats will be used so the budget is roughly 3072 euros.
The necessary
reagents
are:
• Angiotensin Hormone;
• Kinin hormone; • Reagents for performing knockouts; • Reagents for histological sections; |
As for materials it is necessary:• All material associated
with a histology laboratory;
• Material for blood analysis; • Centrifuge for pressure; • Equipment for the measurement of intracranial pressure; |
As for people from other areas, in addition to biochemical, we will require:
• Veterinarians;
• Histologists;
• Biologists;
• Histologists;
• Biologists;
Regarding the laboratory material the project will be made
in a partnership between our work group and the laboratories ICBAS/FFUP, that have the required infrastructure to
safely conduct the study. A special centrifuge
will also be required to simulate high localized
pressure in a controlled environment, which can be
provided by the physics department of the university.
This technique is based on “High-G training”, a method applied worldwhile to
simulate blood flow variations in human beings, and is supported by basic fluid
physics and the effects of acceleration on an object with mass.
In order to obtain the necessary reagents, the goal is to create a partnership with a pharmaceutical company which will provide the hormones angiotensin and kinin, as well help synthetize the hormones found in the bat.
